Anna & Jon | Intimate & Stylish Micro Wedding in Bath
One of the things that I hope sticks around from the pandemic when it comes to weddings, is the super intimate, non-traditional days more and more couples are choosing over the elaborate big affairs. Anna and Jon are one of those chilled couples who chose the intimate route and they did it in style!
The couple got in contact with me just a few months before their wedding day which meant the excitement of their upcoming nuptials was still in the air as they hadn’t spent ages planning. I have to say they did an amazing job of putting their own stamp on their wedding day and making it unique and special to them in such a short space of time.
We planned an engagement shoot over Christmas at Sham Castle in Bath which was the perfect opportunity to get them used to being in front of a camera. The real benefit of engagement shoots is getting to know a couple better and it really helped us on the day as I ended up feeling like I was part of the wedding and not just the photographer there to capture it.
Their wedding day was in February 2022, and with around 24 of their nearest and dearest as guests, it really was the perfect intimate and small event. Everyone there was so in love with the couple you could really feel it in the room. In particular the way Jon looked at his bride Anna was just so sweet, you could tell how much he adores her.
I love it when couples walk into their ceremony together, it sets them apart instantly as a couple who are doing it their own way and that really did set the tone for the day. Even more special was that Anna and Jon walked in with their dog Ozzy who was a really important part of their day. I love it when a couple's dog is part of their big day and Ozzy was no exception, he sat front and centre during the ceremony and was watching them intently. Such a sweet, good boy.
Anna wore a midi length wrap dress with long sleeves and tons of embellishments which caught the light as she moved. She carried a simple bouquet of dried flowers which are a really hot trend for weddings at the minute - I love them because it means the bouquet really will last forever if looked after (without having to hastily have fresh flowers dried after the wedding!) A simple yet cute chiffon bow in her hair finished off her look perfectly.
Jon wore a black velvet tux which was really suave and dapper. They both looked chic without being overdone, just an effortlessly cool couple!
They had some sentimental touches throughout the day which were lovely, in particular Anna wore a pendant which carried an inscription from Jon as well as from her nan who had sadly passed away. She also wore a ring belonging to her nan which felt really special, like Anna was carrying her with her throughout her big day. Jon’s cufflinks were also particularly special as they belonged to his grandad. They really knew how to give nods to their missing loved ones which was touching to see and definitely evoked emotion from other family members and guests.
The venue was the Temple of Minerva in the Bath Botanical Gardens. It's a small space which was perfect for their intimate day but no less stunning despite its compact size. Despite being February we were blessed with only a small drizzle of rain during the ceremony which cleared by the time Anna and Jon were ready to be showered with dried petals as they left the venue as husband and wife.
After the ceremony they celebrated with Portuguese pastel de nata which were made locally in Bath and Krispy Kreme doughnuts instead of canapes which added to the chilled, relaxed feel of their day. Anna and Jon celebrated later with a meal locally in Bath with their guests but not before a sparkler lit departure. With it being February there was an early sunset which made for some dramatic dusk shots of them leaving the venue.
I cannot overstate how lovely the day was, low key but they had made the venue look beautiful, so much thought and effort had been put into the day and making the space feel special with finishing touches. Everyone felt really included in the day which was also really special, even me as the photographer, so thank you and congratulations Anna and Jon!
